Star Wars Trash Compactor Bookends

What’s the most memorable scene in Star Wars? To me, it will always be this one. han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Chewbacca have only just met and are immediately placed in a hopeless situation as mistrust and snark run rampant.

Entertainment Earth is taking pre-orders for these bookends that recreate the classic trash compactor scene. The Dianoga Garbage Squid even makes an appearance.

Stargate Coasters at ThinkGeek

ThinkGeek.com had a big day full of releases yesterday. One of the items that stands out are these Stargate coasters.

The SG-1 program, however, ran out of money in season 10 – er, I mean – 2007, and Cheyenne Mountain had to liquidate its assets. Therefore, we took this miniscule Stargates, placed rippled surfaces inside the rings and called them coasters. Put your drinks on ‘em so your desk doesn’t get rings.

How the mighty have fallen, eh? Sad. Still, you get to benefit! So, cool!

How to Get Your Own Tribble at San Diego Comic Con

Check out Sci Fi Wire for a video starring “Trouble with Tribbles” screenwriter David Gerrold, who explains how you can get your own tribble at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. He also invites you to take a photo of you and your tribble in the most “unusual situation” you can think of and send it to him and CBS… I’m not exactly sure he understands what kind of photos he is inviting.

In short form, visit the Paramount Home Entertainment booth (#3535) at Comic Con to get one for yourself. Be quick, as supplies will be limited.

This year’s exclusive, limited-run products include a “Schrute Farms Beets Watch,” celebrating the #1 beet-related agro-tourism destination in Northeastern Pennsylvania (a precious 1,000 units); a “Heroes Double Helix Necklace” that will enable fans to advertise their Heroic status (just 1,000 units); a “Heroes-Sword Letter Opener” that replicates Hiro’s famous Kensei sword (1,000 units); a “Caprica USB Drive,” celebrating the period 58 years prior to the events seen in Battlestar Galactica (limited edition of 1,000 Units); and a “Chuck Supervisor Polo,” as worn by the elite of the Buy More retail family (1,000 units). Also available will be an updated version of last year’s wildly popular chrome, pop-up style “Battlestar Galactica Toaster” — which creates the image of a Cylon on toast. The enhanced, 2009 edition — the “Battlestar Galactica LED Toaster” — is also emblazoned with the face of a Cylon that has red glowing eyes made of LED lights (limited edition of 2,000 units). Online pre-orders for NBC merchandise begin today.

Now, $90 is a little steep for a toaster. But seriously… it burns Cylons into your toast!

Action Figure Insider has a review of the Silver Age Green Arrow figure from DC Direct’s upcoming History of the DC Universe series. Series 1 will also include Batman, Manhunter and Blue Devil.

The line is off to a great start, featuring GA as Jack Kirby drew him and the underrepresented characters Manhunter and Blue Devil.

Soon it will be time for the biggest pop culture convention in the country, San Diego Comic Con. As a former San Diegan, I used to attend every year. I’ve still made it a time or two since then. Finances will tell if I’ll make it this year.

To be sure, the swag to be had there is unparalleled. Here’s a round-up of what’s there, inclusing some exclusive swag only available at the con.

Peter Jackson will make his Comic Con debut in support of District 9, and you can get in on the action. IGN is holding a District 9 VIP access Sweepstakes, where you could win a trip to the con and a special meet and greet with Jackson.
An exclusive release of Comic-Con: 40 Years of Writers, Artists, Fans and Friends will debut before its national release in September. Read more at Comic Book Resources.
IfMagazine reports that mimico will be selling a limited edition Darth Vader unmasked USB flash drive that reveals a surprise (think trial of the tree).
Activision will have a playable demo of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.
TrekMovie.com reports that Hallmark will be featuring a limited edition Lt. Uhuru ornament. The run is limited to 450 pieces and will only be at San Diego Comic Con 2009.
